Physical images defenition

How does Gilliam’s animations link with Hannah Hoch’s photo-composites?
g
Gilliams animations link with hanna hoch's as they both use the same type of materials for their photography for example they both use cut outs of various materials/images and merges them all together like a collage. They both use posters, newspapers, magazines, previously taken photos, ect.
How is meaning changed through creating photo-composites?
It can easily change something very important and serious like politics into something very unimportant and cheerful or vice versa.

What art movement are Hoch and Gillliam linked to?
They are linked to the dada movement, dada was a form of artistic anarchy made out of the disgust for the social, political and cultural values of the current time-1916( Switzerland)It embraced elements of art, music, poetry, theatre, dance and politics.

This is one of Hannah Hochs photographs

This is one of Terry Gilliams animation movement pieces, its from  one of his animation films called story timeto create. Hoch and Gilliam's work are both very creative and different to the majority of photographers/artists that I have researched or seen work of, as they both manipulate their images in very random ways. For example Hoch's photo above is very abnormal because you wouldn't normally see facial features on a sun, so she is using personification by giving the sun human features. And with Gilliam's photo he has used hands as people dinning at a restaurant for a sketch show. This type of manipulation can be seen as funny because its out of the ordinary, so the perfect audience for this would be children or just people who need cheering up.

Photo manipulation-involves transforming or altering a photograph using various method and techniques to achieve desired results, this is usually done without the use of software. The physical adaption of images are produced through, tearing, painting, scratching, etc.
