The images were captured in the studio as I could control the light levels and the surroundings of the subject. The camera used was a Nikon D3300 and the aperture settings were set to F8. This allowed enough light to be entered into the frame, when combined with the studio lights, to light a specific portion of the models faces only.I firstly tried to capture images showing a wide range of tone in them. I took photographs from around the college and its gardens and car park, as well as taking photos in the studio using other students as my subjects. When I was taking photos in the college in order to achieve the greatest tone in my images I often had to wait for the sun to come out from behind the clouds. This was worth the wait because the shadows and highlights were intensified and really increased the tone in the images. This added depth to the images and so accentuated the form of the subject.

Tone definition- 

The lightness, brightness or value of a patch in a photograph.Dark tones correspond to shadows,light tones correspond to bright or highlight areas. Slight overall colour cast or hint of colour in a print or part of image that should be neutral e.g. green tone in Fujichrome blacks.
Tones are created by the way light falls on a 3D object. The parts of the object on which the light is strongest are called highlights and the darker areas are called shadows. There will a range of tones in between the highlights and shadows.Without tone Form does not exist, tone is therefore an important aspect in the visualisation of 3D objects.

In this photograph there is multiple areas with shadows and various areas that are more highlighted to others, this is where there is more light shinning through the clouds in the photo. the shadowed area is the area where the clouds are casted, which then blocks the sunlight from reaching the buildings so therefore they are blocked out. This photo is also in black and white which adds to the shadows and highlights as the shadows may appear darker tun others so this creates contrast within there photo.

Here is another photo which I took for the theme of tone. I took this outside with natural lighting which created strong tones across the image. Using photoshop, I evened out the yellow colours to make it cleaner and sharper. This is important as it adds white balance to the image and therefore makes it look better.  Unfortunately, when I fixed the curves and levels here, it gave the image an overall blue tone which shouldn't be there and therefore took away from the image.

The photo of the mono-blocked car park I included because it was unusual, as the blocks had been worn in such a way that there was a range of tones created by the weathering. Finally, it is known that the degree of dark against light in an image can contribute to the mood the image conveys, so I wanted to explore how I could manipulate this feeling by experimenting with the tone of the photo. to improve it I would try and edit it to bring out more tone in the blocks,

 I have captured the shadows under the stairs and the highlighted areas where the light from the sun hits the railings and edge of the steps. This help create a third dimension in the image and helps the viewer visualise the object. as without tone form cannot exist. I also Photo-shopped this image to try to make the area more inviting and cheerful as if it were still summer.
