Portraiture definition- Portrait photography or portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that captures the personality of a subject by using effective lighting, backdrops, and poses. A portrait picture might be artistic, or it might be clinical, as part of a medical study.

My own interpretation- Its photos of people or living things normally taken with backdrops and normally taken from shoulders and above,like  family photo-shoot.

 I chose this photo because its a surreal portrait so it could have a lot of connotations, deeper meanings, that could be said about it. For instance he could 

This a photo of Winston Churchill taken by Yousuf Karsh, this photo has very deep and dark tones in it to create quite a serious tone within the photo, as the context of Winston Churchill would be very serious. The mood of the photo is also very serious as his expression is blank, the lighting is very muscular as well as it highlights all of his facial features and makes him appear too be brave and not afraid to take a photo.

This portrait is of Amanda Lepore a model taken by David Lachapelle. The photos mood id very bright and cheerful as the lighting is just directly on her face and there are no dark tones in it, so therefore its very feminine. This photo looks to be based on Marilyn Monroe as its very similar to how her portraits would be.
